Inflatiable Critique

In the beginning of the inflatables project things weren't turning out so well because we were trying to make things way more complicated than the structure needed to be, but in the end things went really well. We felt pretty good about the shower stall and the fact that it could hold more than 4 people but not a lot of people wanted to enter it (a few did but not a lot) and even though most people didn't enter the shower everyone that walked by wanted to draw on it which made it a big hit we thought. The wind was a big problem because even though we had things to weigh down the shower, if there was a big gust of wind the structure would try to fall over. Maggie liked her performance piece for the shower because she said it was nice to sleep in which is something we all really needed. In the end we ended up not using a lot of energy because we used a small fan instead of leaf blowers to inflate the shower.

SRL

No one has ever really liked politics. They have always been deemed corrupted and not trustworthy. The Survival Research Labratories uses satire in their performances to show the downfall of politics and wealthy corporations who have fallen to corruption, and they do so by creating futuristic, deadly machines to show what could be. SRL’s and other mainstream’s work seem similar with the way they both use satire to show the true face of the wealthy. They always show how they are now and what would happen if they were to hit rock bottom. SRL’s work promotes mechanized violence as well as critiquing it.

Performance Crit

Well, my performance was short and not as good as I had planned. I should have built up the anticipation with my piece by shaking my little empty box of hopes and dreams and check if anything was inside, and I think me jumping and destroying the box at the end would have been better.

Mark Making

My story was about the pain that happens when messing with fire, so I burnt marks into a bridge-like structure to symbolize walking in a line. The group I was critiquing with said they would like to see more lines and make the bridge longer

The Three Phases of Coloring

Although I was completely worn out from working on these, I did like how they turned out. The dot one happened to be my favorite although everyone liked the torn image more. During critique session, I was told the values were nice; however, I needed a darker background on the red torn piece and the corners of the transparent one needed to be glued better. Overall, I was given the stamp of approval on my work.

It's funny how I started out with a steer, and ended up with a jellyfish. Well, what really happened is that my plastic was beginning to turn into a steer, but a mishap happened while ironing, so I made him into a jellyfish. I'm just glad he looks like an animal.

Proposal Critique

My colosseum idea was unique and structurally designed. It was indeed made from plastic and air. It was big enough to house four people at once. The way the colosseum looks can fit any site. Arches took up a lot of space and weaved within one another. The piece would draw people in because of its size and the neat performances going on with in it. The piece has enough information to build it from the way the seems are sealed to the way the project will be held down. The only problem: How big would the final piece be?
Performances would be held with in the arena area and attract people to come see what was happening. People could either join the fight or get lost in the arch maze within the arena area. There are many arches in the colosseum, the people can leave through there or stay and fight within the arena. The colosseum would be on a hill and start off with small arches and then the arches grow bigger as they people go downhill. The general theme is the roman colosseum. Sandbags, stakes and ropes, and ropes tied to trees would secure the piece from flying away. Using fans, the piece will fill with air and stand strong. Surrounding buildings will have to be our source of electricity. This colosseum would be a performative element because of the sword fighting going on in the arena. Yes, there will be other plastic objects.

Proposal Board

This is my 3D proposal for my Colosseum. The base is made out of cardboard, and the plastic is trashbags. I even added real grass for a more realistic ground.
